PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The company was building conveyor systems for the sugar industry, mining industry and other industries.
Each project was a tailor manufactured conveyor system according to customer needs and had a lead time about 6 to 7 month after customer order with a fixed dead line. To ensure the maximum efficiency and profit for the customer the conveyor systems had to be in service at harvest time of the sugar beans. A delay caused a reduced output of sugar for the customer.
From Engineering to putting into service of the system, everything was manufactured in-house or with company personnel. Only small parts of the projects were outsourced in case of capacity shortage.
For 15 years the company wasn’t able to finalize projects in budget or time.

PROJECT PLANNING and EXECUTION

Reviewing the history of the project management it was revealed that modern project management techniques were not used and communication between the involved departments hadn’t been carried out effective enough.
New projects were planned in detail in MS Project. Regular project meetings were hold and the progress of the tasks were monitored on a daily base.
